About Laboratory Vane Shear
Laboratory Vane Shear Motorized
Consists of a torque head adjustable in height by means of a lead screw rotated by a drive wheel to enable the vane to be lowered into the specimen. Rotation of the vane is by means of a hand wheel which operates a worm gear arrangement turning the upper end of a calibration torsion spring, vane dia, rod dia, vane size & vane height are as per IS specifications. The vane shaft is attached through the hollow upper shaft to a resettable pointer, which indicates the angle indicates the angle of torque on a dial graduated in degree the dial reading multiplied by spring factor gives the torque a container for soil sample is also supplied & a sampling tube of 38mm. i.d. & 150mm long can also be used as container . Supplied with set of four springs, one each of approx. 2 kgs/cm sq., 4kgs/cm sq., 6 kgs/cm sq. & 8kgs/cm sq. complete as above in a wooden carrying case. Electrically operated rate of rotating is 1/60 R.P.M. Suitable for operation on 230 V A.C. Single Phase.

FAQs of Laboratory Vane Shear :
Q: How does the Laboratory Vane Shear Apparatus determine the undrained shear strength of soil?
A: The apparatus employs a set of stainless steel vanes inserted into a soil sample within a stainless steel container. The synchronous motor rotates the vanes at a constant speed of 1 rpm. The resistance encountered by the vanes as they rotate is measured using the analog/dial gauge, providing the undrained shear strength of the soil.
Q: What types of soil samples can be tested with this vane shear apparatus?
A: This instrument is suitable for cohesive soils, such as clay, where undrained shear strength testing is essential. Variable vane sizes (12.5, 25, 37.5, and 50 mm) allow for testing small to moderately large samples, accommodating a variety of laboratory requirements.
Q: When should I use this apparatus in my soil analysis process?
A: Use the Laboratory Vane Shear Apparatus during site investigation, quality control in construction, academic research, or any instance where evaluating the undrained shear strength of soil is necessary. It is especially relevant before the construction of foundations or earthworks to ensure soil stability.
Q: Where can the Laboratory Vane Shear Apparatus be operated?
A: This equipment is designed for laboratory use only. It should be set up on a stable workstation within environments where ambient temperature conditions prevail, ensuring reliable performance and accurate readings.
Q: What is the typical process for using this apparatus?
A: To use, place the soil sample in the container, select the appropriate vane size, and insert the vanes into the sample. Initiate the motor to rotate the vanes at 1 rpm. Read the measured resistance from the analog/dial gauge, which reflects the undrained shear strength. Clean and maintain the apparatus after use for optimal longevity.
Q: How does the apparatus benefit users in research and industry?
A: By providing 100% accuracy, efficient operation, and robust construction, the Laboratory Vane Shear Apparatus supports reliable data collection for geotechnical analysis. This efficiency and dependability enhance decision-making in building design, soil research, and educational settings.
