CALANDRIA EVAPORATOR APPARATUS
The present set-up is designed tostudy the operation of Calandria evaporator. It consists of a short tubevertical evaporator in which tubes are surrounded by a Stainless Steel jacketand fitted with accumulator.
Dilute solution is fed to theevaporator and heated by Steam from a steam generator to concentrate the dilutefeed solution to a desired level. The jacket is fitted with a steam trap andthe condensate is collected at the end of trap.
The vapors of volatile solvent arecondensed in a shell & tube type condenser and the balance non-volatilesolute collected in the accumulator recycled back to the evaporator.
Experimentation/Learning Objectives
To concentrate a solution and to evaluatethe following at steady state:
Material and Heat Balance.
Economy and the capacity of theevaporator.
Overall heat transfer co-efficient.

Water Supply: Initial fill and floor drain.
