About BOUNDARY RAM TEST RIG
Specification:
BOUNDARYRAM TEST RIG
The test section of Boundary LayerApparatus has been developed to perform various experiments of aerodynamics andfluid flow.
This is a open circuit Wind Tunnel, provides a region of air flow.
A layer of fluid, which comes incontact with the boundary surface, adheres to it on account of viscosity, as areal fluid flow past a solid boundary. As a result, no slip condition prevails.
If the boundary is at rest, the fluidat the boundary has zero velocity and the velocity increases if the fluid isaway from the boundary.
Thus, there, is a thin layer in thevicinity of the boundary within which the velocity has been affected because ofthe boundary & viscous effects. This thin layer has been termed as the BoundaryLayer.
Learning Objectives/Experiments:
To study the boundary layer velocityprofile.
To determine boundary layer thickness& displacement thickness.
To determine the exponent in thepower-law of velocity distribution.

FAQs of BOUNDARY RAM TEST RIG:
Q: How is the Boundary Ram Test Rig operated in a fluid mechanics laboratory?
A: The BRTR-50 operates on a floor-standing, semi-automatic setup. Users place the test piece in the rig, select fluid type (water or mineral oil), and use the control valve to initiate and regulate pressure, which is monitored on the analog dial gauge. The system is powered by a standard 230V AC electrical connection and provides real-time measurement up to 1000 N.
Q: What are the main applications of the Boundary Ram Test Rig?
A: This test rig is primarily used in fluid mechanics laboratories for evaluating and demonstrating principles of boundary and surface interactions under variable pressure conditions. Its precision measurements are invaluable for research, academic demonstrations, and industrial quality assessment involving hydraulic systems.
Q: When should the overpressure safety valve be checked or used?
A: The overpressure safety valve functions automatically to maintain safe pressure levels during each operation. It should be checked regularly as part of routine maintenance to ensure it responds correctly in case the system pressure exceeds the 25 bar limit. This safety feature is crucial for protecting both the machine and the operator.
Q: Where can the Boundary Ram Test Rig be installed or used?
A: The rig is designed for permanent placement on the laboratory floor, supported by its sturdy, powder-coated mild steel frame. Its compact dimensions (900 x 450 x 1200 mm) enable easy integration into most laboratory settings, making it suitable for educational institutions, research centers, and quality control labs.
Q: What maintenance is required to ensure optimal performance of the test rig?
A: Routine maintenance includes checking the pressure gauge accuracy, inspecting the overpressure safety valve, and ensuring all connections are secure. The equipments powder-coated surface should be kept clean and dry, and the system should be flushed periodically when switching between water and mineral oil to prevent cross-contamination.
Q: How does the design of the BRTR-50 ensure durability and corrosion resistance?
A: The BRTR-50 is constructed from mild steel with a powder-coated finish, which provides strong resistance to corrosion and environmental wear. This structural design guarantees durability and long service life, even with intensive laboratory use involving water or mineral oil.
Q: What benefits does the Boundary Ram Test Rig offer to fluid mechanics laboratories?
A: Laboratories benefit from the rigs precise measurement capabilities, safety mechanisms, and versatility in handling various test pieces and fluids. The semi-automatic operation, corrosion-resistant build, and user-friendly interface make experiments more efficient and reliable, supporting advanced research and educational outcomes.
