DOUBLE EFFECT EVAPORATOR APPARATUS

Double Effect Evaporator deals withthe concentration of a non- volatile solute from a solution by the removal ofrequired amount of volatile solvent. Usually the solvent is water.

Long tube evaporators are usuallyused for the concentration of foamy liquids.

The set-up is consists of twoevaporators fitted in series. Each is made up of Stainless Steel tubessurrounded by a Stainless Steel jacket and fitted with accumulator.

Dilute solution is feed to the firstevaporator.

Steam from a steam generator issupplied to evaporator to concentrate the dilute feed solution to a desiredlevel. The jacket is fitted with a steam trap and the condensate is collectedat the end of trap.

The vapors of volatile solventproduced in first evaporator are supplied to the second evaporator.

The vapors of volatile solvent arecondensed in a shell & tube type condenser and the balance non-volatilesolute is collected in the accumulator.
