About Split Spoon Sampler

Split Spoon Sampler
This is used for standard penetration test for determining penetration resistance (N valve) of soil which can be related to unconfined compressive strength. Penetration resistance (N value) of soil is determined by giving a number of blows with a 65 kgs weight falling through a given distance of 75cm required to penetrate the assembly to a depth of 30 cm when properly seated on the ground. The sampler is made from a steel tube split length wise & held together by a head fitted with a ball check valve & a hardened steel shoe in size cutting edge of 35mm dia. The sampler is 35mm i.d. & 50.8mm in outer dia & 508mm long. One adopter to connect 'A' type drill rods is also supplied.

Reliable Split Spoon Sampler for Accurate Soil Investigation
Our Split Spoon Sampler is crafted for geotechnical professionals who demand precision and reliability. With multiple diameter and length options, it fits seamlessly into standard drilling setups, enabling accurate soil sampling even in challenging conditions. The replaceable steel cutting shoe and robust mild steel construction ensure durability and consistent performance. Corrosion-resistant finishes extend the product lifespan, making it suitable for a variety of field and laboratory applications.

Versatile Features & Safe Handling
This split-barrel sampler is distinguished by its easily openable design, allowing quick and efficient access to collected samples. Threaded couplings enable secure attachment to drive rods, while rounded edges enhance safety during manual operations. The samplers core componentsbarrel, shoe, head, drive rod adapter, and check valvesare engineered for maximum accuracy, supporting a wide measurement range. Its manual, drop-hammer operation makes it accessible for diverse sampling environments.

FAQs of Split Spoon Sampler:

Q: How is the Split Spoon Sampler used for soil sampling?

A: To use the Split Spoon Sampler, it is attached to a drive rod and driven into the ground using a manual drop-weight hammer. Once the desired depth is reached, the split-barrel sampler is retrieved, opened, and the soil sample is collected for analysis.

Q: What sizes and lengths are available for this sampler?

A: The sampler comes in three diameter options: 2 inches, 1.5 inches, and 1.0 inch. Length choices include 24 (610mm), 18 (457mm), and 12 (305mm), offering flexibility for various site conditions and sample requirements.

Q: When should I opt for a replaceable cutting shoe in sampling?

A: A replaceable steel cutting shoe is recommended when working with abrasive or hard soils, as it extends the lifespan of the sampler and ensures consistently clean cuts for accurate sample retrieval.

Q: Where can this sampler be used effectively?

A: This split spoon sampler is ideal for field applications such as soil investigation and SPT sampling, and its compatible with standard drilling and sampling equipment widely used across geotechnical and environmental projects.

Q: What is the process for retrieving a soil sample with this equipment?

A: After driving the sampler to the required depth, the sampler is carefully pulled out. Its split-barrel design allows it to be easily opened, so the intact soil sample can be extracted with minimal disturbance. The sample is then ready for transport to the laboratory.

Q: What are the benefits of using a split-barrel, easily openable sampler?

A: This design simplifies the retrieval of undisturbed samples, reducing the chance of sample loss or contamination. The openable barrel allows quick access to the specimen, improving efficiency during busy field operations.
