About Loss on Heating
Loss on HeatingLoss on Heating/ Thin Film OvenThis dual purpose oven is designed to determine the loss in weight of bitumen and flux oils (Loss on Heating test) and the effect of heat and air on asphaltic materials (Thin Film test). The unit is heavily insulated and has a double glass door for viewing the test chamber thermometer and samples. Temperature is controlled at 163° C ± 1° C by means of a variable temperature controller and thermostat. Two rotating platforms are supplied with each oven: One accepts 9 standard penetration cups for the loss on heating test, the other accepts two 140mm diameter test pans for the thin film test. The platforms are rotated at 5 to 6 rpm by an external motor. Chamber dimensions 350 x 350 x 350mm (length x width x height)
Precision and ComplianceThis apparatus is designed to offer highly accurate results with a microbalance sensor and is compliant with renowned ASTM D6 and IS 1212 standards. With a resolution of 0.01 g and accuracy up to 0.1 mg, users can rely on dependable measurements for research and industrial tasks.
User-Friendly OperationThe digital LCD display and adjustable timer (060 minutes) facilitate convenient use. The semi-automatic nature ensures straightforward operation, making it suitable even for users with minimal training. The insulated chamber and quartz heater further enhance efficiency and safety.
Durable and Safe DesignConstructed with an aluminium body and insulated cover, the apparatus is robust and energy-efficient with just 90 watts of power consumption. The over-temperature protection and humidity suitability (up to 80% RH) make it apt for challenging environments.
FAQs of Loss on Heating:
Q: How does the Loss on Heating apparatus ensure accurate measurement?
A: Accuracy is achieved through a quartz crystal microbalance sensor and a microprocessor-based control system, offering precision up to 0.1 mg. The insulated chamber helps maintain stable conditions during the testing process.
Q: What is the process for determining loss on heating using this instrument?
A: Place the sample (between 1200 g) on the stainless steel tray, select the desired timer setting, and start the unit. The digital LCD display provides real-time data, and the automatic temperature control ensures consistent heating. After completion, results can be reviewed on the display.
Q: When should this apparatus be used?
A: It is ideal for laboratory and industrial applications that require the determination of loss on heating in substances, ensuring compliance with ASTM D6 and IS 1212 standards.
Q: Where can this device be installed for optimal performance?
A: Install the unit on a stable surface within laboratory environments. The blue-grey aluminum body with insulated cover and compact dimensions (350 mm x 200 mm x 200 mm) allow placement in limited spaces.
Q: What are the included accessories, and how do they enhance usability?
A: The apparatus comes with a glass lid, stainless steel pan, and an instruction manual. These accessories help streamline the process, improve safety, and provide clear operational guidance.
Q: How does over-temperature protection benefit users?
A: Over-temperature protection automatically prevents the apparatus from exceeding safe operating limits, safeguarding samples and operators, and ensuring consistent performance under extended use.
