About Kelley Ball Penetration Apparatus

Kelley Ball Penetration Apparatus

The apparatus is used to determine the workability of Portland cement & concrete. The Kelly ball test is considered to be simple and much faster than the slump test. Twice the Kelly ball reading approximately equals the slump. It consists of a cylinder with a ball shaped bottom and handle, together weighing 15 kg. A strip frame, guides the handle and serves as a reference for measuring the depth of penetration. The handle is graduated in mm. Penetration can be recorded to the nearest 0.5mm.

Reliable Workability Testing

Designed for precision, the Kelley Ball Penetration Apparatus offers reliable assessment of concrete workability and consistency. Its 150 mm hardened stainless steel ball and analog penetration scale ensure accurate measurements, vital for quality control in construction projects.

Robust and Portable Design

Built with mild steel and finished in powder coating, the apparatus resists corrosion and wear. Its lightweight, portable frame allows for easy transportation to job sites, while manual operation eliminates the need for a power source.

User-Friendly Operation

The Kelley Ball device is straightforward to assemble and operate, with a clear analog display. The process requires minimal maintenance, making it ideal for daily use in both laboratory and onsite environments.

FAQs of Kelley Ball Penetration Apparatus:

Q: How is the Kelley Ball Penetration Apparatus used to determine the consistency of fresh concrete?

A: To use the Kelley Ball Penetration Apparatus, fill the cylinder with fresh concrete, level the surface, and position the steel ball and graduated frame atop it. Release the ball and note the depth of penetration on the analog scale, which correlates with the workability of the concrete.

Q: What are the core benefits of using this apparatus on a job site or in a laboratory?

A: The apparatus is portable, easy to use, and requires no electrical power. Its corrosion-resistant materials and low-maintenance design make it ideal for consistent, accurate workability testing across a variety of environments.

Q: When should the Kelley Ball Penetration test be performed?

A: This test is best conducted immediately after mixing the concrete to provide a reliable measure of its workability and consistency before placement or further processing.

Q: Where is the Kelley Ball Penetration Apparatus typically utilized?

A: This device is suitable for use at construction sites for on-the-spot testing as well as in laboratory settings for controlled consistency measurements of fresh concrete.

Q: What is the process for maintaining the Kelley Ball Penetration Apparatus?

A: Thanks to its low-maintenance design, regular cleaning after use and periodic inspections for wear and residue are typically sufficient to keep the apparatus in optimal working condition.

Q: How accurate are the results provided by this apparatus?

A: The analog display offers a penetration scale with 1 mm graduations and an overall accuracy of 1 mm, ensuring dependable results for concrete consistency testing.
