About Density of Fresh and Hardened Concrete

Density of Fresh and Hardened Concrete

The density of both fresh and hardened concrete is of interest to the engineer for numerous reasons including its effect on durability, Strength and resistance to permeability. Hardened concrete density is determined either by simple dimensional checks, followed by weighing and calculation or by weight in air / water buoyancy methods.

Density of Hardened Concrete :

The density of hardened concrete specimens such as cubes and cylinders can be quickly and accurately determined using a Buoyancy Balance.

Buoyancy Balance :

The buoyancy balance system developed by us consists of a rigid support frame. Incorporating a water tank mounted on a platform. A mechanical lifting device is used to raise the water tank through the frame height immersing the specimen suspended below the balance fixed on a cradle. The balance supplied may also be used as a standard weighting device, thus providing a versatile and comprehensive weighing system in the laboratory. The sample is weighed in air and in water to calculate the density of fresh concrete.Used for determining the slump of fine aggregate in the determination of bulk and apparent specific gravity and absorption of fine aggregate.

Precision in Concrete Density Measurement

Our Density Testing Machine offers lab professionals robust, accurate measurements of both fresh and hardened concrete densities. Featuring a measuring range from 500 kg/m to 2500 kg/m, it ensures results fall within a 0.5% accuracy margin. With the power of a semi-automatic system and options for both analog and digital displays, this machine streamlines laboratory workflows efficiently.

Engineered for Efficiency and Durability

Constructed from high-quality mild steel and stainless steel with a powder-coated finish, this equipment is designed for longevity. It requires minimal maintenance thanks to its sturdy build and is easily adaptable to different laboratory environments. The compact design, combined with a weight of 75 kg, allows easy placement and stable operation on lab benches.

FAQs of Density of Fresh and Hardened Concrete:

Q: How is concrete density measured using this machine?

A: Concrete density is measured by directly sampling up to 10 liters of fresh or hardened concrete, placing it in the measuring cylinder, and using the in-built weighing balance. The density is then displayed either analogically or digitally, depending on your configuration.

Q: What makes this density testing machine suitable for civil engineering laboratories?

A: The machine complies with IS 1199 and ASTM C138 standards, features a high-accuracy weighing system, and is constructed from robust materials. Its semi-automatic operation and temperature tolerance make it ideal for precise, reliable use in laboratory environments.

Q: When should the calibration of the density testing machine be performed?

A: Calibration should be conducted before any critical measurement session and periodically as recommended by your laboratorys quality control protocol. The machine allows for both manual and automatic calibration for user convenience.

Q: Where should the machine be placed to ensure optimal operation and longevity?

A: For best results, install the machine indoors in a dry, dust-free setting. Ensure that the workspace is stable and free from vibrations and direct sunlight to maintain its precise measurements and preserve the equipments surface finish.

Q: What is the recommended process for sampling and measuring density with this equipment?

A: Begin by collecting a sample of concrete (fresh or hardened) directly, not exceeding 10 liters. Place the sample in the measuring cylinder provided. The weighing balance will record the mass, and the unit calculates density based on the set measurement range.

Q: Can this machine handle high-frequency laboratory usage?

A: Yes, the machine supports a frequency of 50 Hz and is built for regular usage in busy laboratory environments. Its durable construction ensures consistent performance and long service life under standard lab conditions.

Q: What are the key benefits of using this density testing machine?

A: Key benefits include high measurement accuracy (0.5%), compliance with global testing standards, robust construction, ease of calibration, flexibility with analog/digital display, and suitability for both fresh and hardened concrete densities.
