Specification of Constant Volume Air Thermometer Apparatus For physics lab
The apparatus consists of detachable thermometer bulb of about 40mm diameter, connected to mercury tube with zero index through a three-way stopcock. Reservoir tube sliding on vertical support rod with clamp along side scale graduated 0 to 500 x 1 mm. A copper vessel. about 100 x 75mm in size, surrounds the bulb and is supported on top of a detachable shelf with thermally insulating screen towards the stand. Complete assembly mounted on a polished wooden stand with base in the form of a small tray for mercury. All glass parts of Borosilicate glass. Complete with pressure rubber tubing and copper vessel.
Precision Temperature MeasurementWith a constant volume method, this air thermometer delivers exceptionally accurate temperature readings for laboratory experiments. The 0 to 500 x 1 mm graduated scale allows for precise adjustments. Its robust and scientific design ensures reliability for various research and educational applications.
Durable and User-Friendly ConstructionAll glass components are crafted from high-quality borosilicate glass, ensuring durability and chemical resistance. The copper vessel, insulating screen, and securely mounted base provide stability and minimize external thermal interference, making the device both practical and safe for repeated laboratory use.
FAQs of Constant Volume Air Thermometer:
Q: How is the Constant Volume Air Thermometer operated in a laboratory setting?
A: The thermometer operates by placing its detachable bulb within the copper vessel to control temperature. Mercury in the reservoir tube moves according to pressure changes, and readings are observed on the graduated scale after adjusting with the sliding reservoir and three-way stopcock.
Q: What type of experiments can this thermometer be used for?
A: This instrument is suitable for experiments focused on precise temperature measurement, gas laws (like Boyles or Charless Law), and studies involving thermodynamic properties of air under controlled constant volume conditions.
Q: When should the copper vessel be used during measurement?
A: The copper vessel should be used whenever its necessary to immerse the bulb in a stable temperature environment, especially when heating or cooling with water baths. It protects the bulb and ensures even temperature distribution for accurate results.
Q: Where is this apparatus commonly installed or set up?
A: Designed for laboratory benches, the thermometers sturdy stand and compact tray base ensure stable placement in academic, research, or industrial laboratories, wherever precise thermal measurements are essential.
Q: What is the process for setting up the Constant Volume Air Thermometer?
A: Begin by assembling the bulb, mercury tube, and copper vessel as directed. Fix the apparatus on a stable surface, ensure the rubber tubings are connected properly, fill the vessel as needed, and adjust the reservoir tube alongside the scale for accurate indexes.
Q: What are the primary benefits of this thermometer for laboratory use?
A: The instrument provides highly accurate and reproducible readings, is durable due to borosilicate glass and copper construction, and facilitates a variety of thermal experiments with its versatile, efficient design.
